PIM Alumni (PIMA) organized its 13th certificate award ceremony at Galadari Hotel on 19th December 2007 for those who successfully completed the Developing Managers for Future Program conducted from 22nd August to 28th November 2007. The event was felicitated by the chief guest Mr. Gamini Karunathilake, CEO of Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka who is also an MBA from the same prestigious institution. More than 60 participants were awarded the certificate for successfully completing the course while 45 earned the merit certificates. A participant from the Eagle Insurance Ltd achieved the 1st in order of merit in the program.
President of PIMA, Mr. Lakshman Abeysekera presented the new strategic plan and its action plan of PIMA to the audience elaborating vision, mission, new logo and detail activities scheduled for the rest of the year of 2007/2008. Having distributed the certificates, the chief guest made a short and fascinating speech on the theme “Some Hints to be an Effective Leader” based on his own experience which enlightened the audience. After the vote of thanks by the person who achieved the 1st in order of merit, the floor was opened for cocktail and fellowship.
PIMA consists of registered members who have completed the MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM). As a part of PIMA’s duty to its society in terms of knowledge and experience sharing, they are progressing with a general Management Development Program which is aiming to foster the participants from different industries with general management skills which is an indispensable ingredient in their career path to the top in Sri Lankan organizations. They have already advertised for their 14th program to be started on 23rd January 2008 for which closing date has been extended till 16th January 2008.
Due to excessive demands for the general program, PIMA had to design corporate specific management development programs for both Sampath Bank Ltd and Sri Lanka Telecom. The Sampath Bank program has already been completed and the SLT program is progressing presently.
These programs are enriched by lecturers with MBAs from the same institute who have vast knowledge and experience from diverse industries. The participants are able to gather a lot of business insights from these practicing industrialists.
